art gallery by victoria

On Friday Room 21 went to the art gallery. When we got there we noticed there were some paintings across the road. The paintings look cool and soon Jeremy took us out there to look closely at it. We found out their were some sort of illusion with each picture. Then Jeremy took our class for a walk around the gallery. We saw lots of woodwork and pictures. Next we arrived in a room with lots of similar looking oil paintings. Jeremy showed us more pictures before giving us some activities to do. We were split into two groups and each group had a different activity. My group played with strings and mirrors witch we used to create a pattern. But my favorite part of the day was making our very own art to take home. Our artwork was made to look 3D. My one was horse themed. We had an awesome time making our creation. We'd love to make more. But we had to get back to school!

Tadpoles

We started having tadpoles at Room 21 in term one. We got the idea from the book, Tadpole's Promise. Everyone loved that book. After a few weeks the tadpoles started growing legs! I was amazed by it's growth. Then, a tadpole went missing ☹ First I didn't believe the horrible news. The tadpoles died at such a young age! Soon, another tadpole had grown arms! I started calling it a frog. It was the first tadpole to change. We placed a net over the tank so the frogs won't hop out in the middle of lessons.

Museum Trip

We crunch on our morning tea and wait until we can get inside. Finally the museum! Excitedly we walk inside and sit on the couches. We get into our groups and go inside the gallery.
First we get 1 hour and a half of looking around. O
ur group looked at the delicate cups and bowls that had flowers and all sorts of different colours o
n it. Sean took some photos and then we moved on ward.
Next we looked at big elephant which weighed a couple of tonnes. We also looked a treehouse that had quite a lot of things in it. There was also a room leading to the next thing that had an old bicycle that had two huge wheels at the back and a basket on it.
Eventually we went into the volcano area. There was also a room that had a television which reported the news that Rangitoto was going to erupt! But it was fake. It was just to tell you that you should be ready of anything. But I learnt how a volcano erupts. Some of the sea's water becomes steam and when you see that it is already too late to run away. This is because the eruption can travel up to 150km per hour. First black amber comes out and then travels until it reaches land. After the eruption everything becomes grey and melts.
Next we went into a area that was talking about sea animals and fishes. On the top left side of the room there was a enormous sword fish.
After a lot of different rooms we had lunch. Carl jumped over these wooden pillars that were very hard to stand on! Also Toby and Oliver had a race across the field.
Finally the last block of the day. A drama. It was talking about the ANZACs and what a person called John Billington and Danny Billington. Danny had died in no man's land and didn't get a grave. He was there to rot until he would disappear. The ANZACs fought in Gallipoli and didn't get the land.
The last thing we did was detective solving. The teacher was Sean. We were trying to figure out what the names of the people who died in the war were called. Then he told us a secret about the cross on the top of the wall. Then it was home time. It was a wonderfully learning day!
